Shark attacks are rare in both Australia and New Zealand — according to DoC, over the past 170 years, there have only been 13 fatal shark attacks documented in NZ. The most recent seems to be this one from a year ago, described on the BBC website.
Off Waikanae Beach? Sharks appear in the water between Kapiti Island and the mainland from time to time. Karl Webber tells us: “Bronze whalers, White pointers, Tigers, Threashers. I caught a Hammerhead 20 odd years back.”
Despite that, we are confident there’s nothing to worry about.
Karl continues: “Sharks don’t eat people. The odd one may take a nip to see what we are and very rarely a white pointer may be between fish and seals transition and mistakes a human. I think that’s an issue if they get a taste. Sharks are really misunderstood. I freak out on them, but love and respect them. Really vital part of the cycle / food chain. I’m pretty sure they’re the oldest living thing from dinosaur days. The practice of finning them is tragic.”

Sharks do not eat people gotta laugh at that one. They will eat anything that will fit in mouth. The diving instructor was bitten in half for crying out load, not exactly a nip.
This is why traditional hunter gatherer Aboriginals etc never treated the ocean as some big play thing. It was for survival food collecting, not to go out like we do in our ignorant society thinking its just one big cushy pillow play world. You are food where ever you go. Saltwater crocs anyone.

Sharks will take nips and bites and then withdraw to let pray bleed to death. Cats do the same thing with pray, what to us looks like playing with a mouse is actually the cat trying to tire the mouse out wear it down, so the cat does not get bitten when trying to kill it like it would if doing it straight away.
Sounds like greeny preaching to me ”sharks do not eat people”, like trying to make the shark sound all angelic and shit lol.
Go ask the ww2 boat that sunk and all the sailors that were feasted on by sharks as they floated around.
Even in Alaska , Inuit knew not to go near killer whales, as you’re food to them. But modern humans come along and make them into some type of big fluffy play thing, shove them in entertainment pools, make them look like wonderous angelic(humans are scum according to David ‘dickface’ Attenborough). Then wonder why Orca gets angry and kills its own owners. sounds a bit like what some humans will do if this government do not buck up its way. Bite the hand that feeds you.
