Sadly, no-one has mentioned the fact that Labour passed the law in the late 80’s making Assault Rifles available to licensed firearm owners. This along with the police failing to follow the vetting process created a situation and as a result legal, licensed firearm owners were penalised. The ‘buyback’ did not get firearms off the gangs or criminals. The only people who responded to the buy back, as expected, were legal gun owners. Guns are not the problem and until we get respect for people and property instilled back into our young people, creating a better sense of values, nothing will change.
