One of the minor items in last week’s Council agenda was changing the District Plan status of this little reserve to “Natural Open Space Zone” rather than simply a council owned plot of land. It has a walking track through it between Kereru Street and Kakariki Grove and is close to the Hemi Matenga Reserve.
This means it should now appear on Google (and other) Maps.

LOOKS SO CLEAN AND PRESERVED.
I WONDER HOW YOUR SHOPPING MALLS AND GROCERY STORES LOOK?
Another point of interest is that the Karkariki stream runs through the reserve, having come from high up the bush covered hill. A clean clear mountain stream at the reserve, but when it emerges from underground piping and crosses David Street during rainfall, the clarity has gone. It eventually joins the Ngarara stream, then the Waimeha to the sea.
