A second giant hole 20 times larger than Earth has ripped through the surface of the sun and is unleashing 3 million km/h solar winds toward our planet. ‘Coronal holes are magnetically open areas that are one source of high-speed solar wind,’ NASA said. ‘They appear dark when viewed in many wavelengths of extreme ultraviolet light, such as seen here. At times, the solar wind can generate aurora at higher latitudes on Earth.’ 

But relax — like the rest of James Shaw’s pseudo-scientific scaremongering, it might sound alarming but the holes’ effects are usually harmless, although satellite communications and high-altitude radio transmissions can sometimes be temporarily disrupted.

I hate The New York Times. Hate it with every fiber of my being, from the depths of my immortal soul.

The “paper of record” for the most murderous and tyrannical nation on earth, The New York Times has been run by the same family since the late 1800s, during which time it has supported every depraved American war and has reliably dished out propaganda to manufacture consent for the political status quo necessary for the operation of a globe-spanning empire that is fueled by human blood and suffering. It is a plague upon our world, and it should be destroyed, buried, and peed on.

And I am being charitable.

Among the latest items of unforgivable militarist smut churned out by the Times is an article titled “An Anxious Asia Arms for a War It Hopes to Prevent,” which freakishly frames the US as just a passive, innocent witness to the US military encirclement of China.

Times author Damien Cave writes ominously that China’s president Xi Jinping “aims to achieve a ‘national rejuvenation’ that would include displacing the United States as the dominant rule-setter in the region,” as though it makes perfect sense for the US to be the “dominant rule-setter” in the continent of Asia.

(You see lines like this in The New York Times constantly; earlier this month the Times editorial board bemoaned the fact that “the United States had tried with little success to persuade or compel China to abide by American rules,” like that’s a perfectly sane and normal line to write. Other nations make demands, the US makes “rules”. These people really do begin with the premise that the US government owns the entire world, and then write from there.)

Watch how Cave then frames the US military encirclement of China as something “China’s neighbors” are doing as a “response” to Xi’s goal of “displacing the United States as the dominant rule-setter in the region.”

“Marama Davidson should apologise to the victims of family and sexual violence for trying to score cheap political points from their trauma”, says ACT MP Karen Chhour.

“Today in Parliament, Davidson repeatedly refused to apologise. It was clear to me that she sincerely believes her original comments that “white cis men” are responsible for all violence.

“Such a wildly inaccurate statement is offensive to victims. Marama Davidson has made a mockery of a serious issue.

“The victims of family and sexual violence need to have confidence that Marama Davidson is fit to be their Minister. But she’s got basic facts wrong and is prepared to make racist and sexist comments for political gain.

“We heard nothing from Marama Davidson about the spike in family violence during Cyclone Gabrielle. She’s delivered nothing of substance as a Minister, just a working group and a strategy. When we do hear from her, it’s to make offensive and incorrect statements.

“That’s not the kind of behaviour New Zealanders expect from Ministers who earn $250,000 a year.

“If Marama Davidson can apologise to the Prime Minister, she can also apologise to the victims of family and sexual violence for politicising this issue.

“If she can’t do that, she should resign and let someone who doesn’t use the trauma of victims of family and sexual violence for political gain takeover as Minister.”

It’s hard to imagine Davidson, a supporter of violence against women who disagree with her opinions, is going to apologize, let alone resign. PM Hipkins has shown he’s just as weak as Luxon in not sacking her from his Cabinet. —Eds

The other problem is that Zelensky is running out of soldiers who haven’t been killed or permanently incapacitated.

It’s what happens when Biden and his fellow psychopaths provoke a war without ascertaining they have enough munitions and troops to fight it. And he shouldn’t count on NATO supplying troops to replace dead Ukrainians — would any other country, with the possible exception of the Poles, want to see their young men slaughtered too?
