After many years of being talked about, planned and funding organised, this is finally happening and provides another visitor attraction which town centre shops will appreciate.

We will be celebrating the opening of Toi MAHARA with a two-day Opening Festival in Mahara Place over Saturday and Sunday 28 and 29 October 2023, supported by Kāpiti Coast District Council.

A formal blessing ceremony will take place at 11 am on Saturday at Toi MAHARA then the gallery will be open to the public from 12.30pm to 4pm.
Four exhibitions will showcase the four new gallery spaces for the re-opening of Toi MAHARA – Whiriwhiria, Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho | Treasures of Kāpiti, Wai Ora | Water Life and Arotake Toi | Mahara Arts Review.

Wonder how much it actually cost the ratepayer in the end and what ongoing responsibilities have been divested to the ratepayer?
It will be quite a bit. But at least Waikanae is getting its share of Council spending for once.
