The NZTA has announced that construction of this will begin during August.

The KCDC says: “This is the final part of the Otaki shared pathway project. Once complete, the shared path will link Otaki township with the rest of the Kapiti Coast’s shared pathways. It will help improve safety of walking and cycling and encourage recreation and tourism in Otaki.”

As in the case of the Waikanae bridge, “significant traffic management is needed to make sure motorists and workers are kept safe.” Details on the NZTA website.

We are told that, unlike the Waikanae Bridge which Kapiti taxpayers contributed over $900,000 towards, the cost of this is being met wholly by the NZTA. Given that the bridge is longer than the Waikanae one, this is welcome.
