The NZTA has announced that construction of this will begin during August.
The KCDC says: “This is the final part of the Otaki shared pathway project. Once complete, the shared path will link Otaki township with the rest of the Kapiti Coast’s shared pathways. It will help improve safety of walking and cycling and encourage recreation and tourism in Otaki.”
As in the case of the Waikanae bridge, “significant traffic management is needed to make sure motorists and workers are kept safe.” Details on the NZTA website.
We are told that, unlike the Waikanae Bridge which Kapiti taxpayers contributed over $900,000 towards, the cost of this is being met wholly by the NZTA. Given that the bridge is longer than the Waikanae one, this is welcome.
Consider the SH1 rail bridge North of Otaki where a sign states “40 kmh when cyclists present”
Surely that is a prime candidacy for a clip on?
Please consider the cost of designing a cycle way that will not impact on the normal flow of traffic. The cost of slowing down traffic on a highway is a lifetime ongoing economic cost to all using the facility, where as a design and built is a once off cost if done correctly
