We thought our Leftist readers would enjoy this bus tour of the main city of North Korea as it shows what an extremely government-regimented and controlled society is like, where scope for individuality is very limited. Everything there must benefit the party (controlled by the Kim dynasty) and the state. Criticise the government and you’ll be punished, probably in a gulag. There is an upside in that there is no trash on the streets and no graffiti.
Wokeists may not like it, however, as there are no black faces do be seen, no immigrants and nearly the whole population is ethnic Korean — no diversity here. Neither are there any LGBTQ flags to be seen, reflecting a lack of recognition let alone rights for them, and there are no mosques.
Climatists should be happy with the paucity of motor vehicles, though. Trams (many bought second hand from Eastern Europe) and buses, diesel and trolley, almost outnumber cars.
The tour guide’s commentary is in Russian as the group is from Vladivostok. Places are labeled in Latin script.
I agree that it’s shocking that North Korea isn’t promoting the chemical castration message. They could learn a lot from New Zealand, which is a world leader in the field – OK, our literacy rates are plummeting, but we are certainly a contender for most kids on puberty blockers.
Chemical castration helps to keep the population down, helps solve the housing shortage?
