Promoting Māori mythology is fine, after all Greek, Roman and Norse mythology is part of Western culture even if everyone knows it’s bunkum, and practical learnings of what for example, is bush tucker and herbal remedies for ailments is sensible. But considering Western science to be inferior to that is Wokeist silliness.
Māori ‘ways of knowing’: how New Zealand cancelled science – Richard Dawkins

Totally agree.
Where is the proof for example, that playing whale sounds to the trees, stops the tree from dying. Another made up theory to gather more money in one or two peoples wallets. Complete waste of New Zealanders hard earned cash.
Yes, primitive people have always produced creation myths, such as that of the book of Genesis.
Argument about what the original spark was that led to the development of the universe as we know it is, one hopes, on a different level. It’s one thing to hypothesise a supernatural being kickstarting everything, even managing development since. It’s another to see this being as a moral force.
Religion as morality was probably always designed for control.
I don’t myself see Dawkins as a great intellect, as his book The God Delusion is flawed on more than one count.
Sorry, this was supposed to be a reply to ‘Gaynor’ below.

It is indeed a privilege for NZ to have the famous atheist Richard comment on our woke science.
However many Maori are Christian and they are unlikely to have animist views on rivers and mountains having full status as people. Nor whale sounds curing tree diseases.
Yet a completely materialistic view of the world would also not be aligned with a Christian’s view.
Most native peoples also have a creation story and that the earth and everything in it was created in a supernatural way . Richard who believes in scientism – that there is a scientific explanation for everything is on shaky ground with recent peer review science journals having articles by eminent scientists including agnostics and atheists challenging Darwinism in its overarching explanation of all life on earth.
You don’t have to look far on the internet to view the debates that are going on concerning Darwinism’s current challenges by scientists who neither believe in Intelligent design nor creation but simply apply science and maths adding in probabilities and biology to the discussion. For example the abiogenesis attempts is considered to be an atheists myth by reputable scientists.
