The 2026 Quinovic New Zealand PGA Championship, being held at Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club from February 19–22, 2026, is supported by the Kāpiti Coast Economic Development Kotahitanga Board (EDKB) which is KCDC’s so-called “Economic Development” arm. It claims this support is part of a strategic effort to bring major events to the Kapiti Coast.
However, Nigel Wilson of KC News says “They are making out that this is a major event. In golfing terms it is an ordinary event on a minor tour and is unlikely to attract any golfers of note. This is not an event council should be funding at all. And I am a keen golfer.”
You wonder what the $100,000 will be used for — the PGA fees? Or maybe apres-golf ‘refreshments’? For the bourgoisie, it should cover several bottles of Dom Perignon champagne (about $300 each), and for the peasants, it should cover a big beer tanker:

A Mercedes beer tanker and trailer in 1969, the biggest in NZ at the time carrying 4,600 imperial gallons or 20,900 litres. $100,000 should cover that with change?
I heard somewhere that they have over 5k tickets booked? dont see any other events around the area that’s attracting that many people…. I’ll be there to watch on the weekend.
Spectator entry is free. However, “registration is required to secure tickets for the championship.” 5,000 entrants? Really?
Funny that it’s a minor tour. Only following the PGA tour, dp world, liv, and the japan PGA. But yeah I agree not a big tour at all. Make sure to get down for a watch! You might learn a thing or two as your such a “keen golfer”
I’d like to correct the information in this article. KCDC is not supporting this event to the tune of $100k. There is a $50k underwrite in place should it be required.
