There are several shrubs/trees that bloom in winter in NZ; probably the 3 most notable are camellia, magnolia and the one above, also known as bell-flowered cherry.

Although it has vibrant blossom, in some areas in NZ is is considered a weed — regional authorities including the Auckland Council and the Nelson-Tasman region have banned the breeding, distribution, sale, or planting of the wild/fertile varieties.
