Grok: is this person a man? No. Lauren Craig is a transgender woman. She was born male and later transitioned; she identifies and presents as a woman. Lauren Craig is the Green Party of Aotearoa New Zealand’s candidate for the Wairarapa electorate in the 2026 general election (also ranked on the party list). Key background: She describes herself as a proud transgender woman with experience in law, activism, and economic policy.
Notable activities include: Founding Students for Climate Solutions and being involved in legal action that reached the Supreme Court over oil and gas exploration. Leading a campaign (including a petition and rally) against the ban on puberty blockers for transgender and takatāpui youth. Serving as field manager for Tory Whanau’s Wellington mayoral campaign. Working in economic policy and as a Public Service Association (PSA) union delegate. Previously serving as Co-convenor of the Young Greens.
One of the funniest moments in NZ political history that I can recall (and there are very few of them), was when Georgina Beyer was successful in winning the Wairarapa seat (so to speak) for labour.
On a miserable (weather wise) election night, loyal labour supporters gathered at the very modest Carterton labour party headquarters to welcome their newly elected member.
As one, they rose to their feet on her entry, and with great enthusiasm, sang a passionate ‘For He’s A Jolly Good Fellow’.
A labour joke (aren’t they all?) is no laughing matter, but this would take some topping in my view.
It’s nothing now for the left – isn’t it a prerequisite to be trans something to be nominated for a green seat these days?

Typo which ruined the story – ‘For she’s a jolly good fellow’.

Dan Carter never needed any conversion therapy.
While playing in our regular golf group (3 – 1 labour, 2 not) I casually mentioned this while the labour guy was teeing off.
It was in the news at that time.
He stopped (a very serious ex rugby player/enthusiast), looked over to me and, with a hurt look, said ‘I didn’t know Dan Carter was gay’
So, there you go.
