This is not an issue that we care about particularly, and from the very few NZ flags you see flying in NZ generally, let alone in Waikanae (usually only one of the official and a couple of the unofficial), not many others do either. In fact on any one day you are likely to see more flags of other countries flying. Most of the time we fly the American flag for the reason given earlier, although we have a couple of others for particular occasions.
Nevertheless, it was and should still should be an interesting exercise and we disagree with those who claim the reported $26 million cost of the referendum exercise is a waste of money. Compared with the amounts the central government wastes on many other things, it isn’t much.
