In a letter to the Kapiti Mayor and Councillors, the White ribbon organiser, Rob McCann, says:
‘Given the concerns expressed by some members of the public about actions of the KCDC, White Ribbon now asks that they cease calling themselves a ‘White Ribbon’ Council.’
Councillor Jackie Elliott (pictured) has complained for a long time about bullying within the Kapiti Council; and she is backed up by Councillor David Scott.

As is now known, KCDC tried to get Alan Tristram to pull the article from his Kapiti Indpendent, like they tried to get the police to stop me putting out leaflets and posters critical of KCDC on this matter, by reading the harassment act. Both failed, but it shows what desperate little people they are. They got Mr Odom of White Ribbon to come down from Auckland where they fed him their line, and undermined Mr Robb McCann, WR manager. Mr Odom did not consult anyone else as to the situation with KCDC. Now Church has hijacked McCann’s suggestion about a WR pledge by each individual councillor, as though it was a KCDC initiative. Mr Odom’s being so easily hoodwinked has in my opinion tainted the campaign, and served a questionable political agenda. It has been a great disservice to genuine victims of abuse.
It’s one thing to state that you agree with an organisation’s objectives; quite another to unilaterally declare that you embody its principles when that clearly isn’t the case.
In a follow-up piece on the Kapiti Independent News website by Cr Elliott, it sounds that, like the water meters, this was again something that KCDC boss bureaucrat Dougherty and former Mayor Rowan decided between them.
