We’ve noticed this on the Destination Waikanae Facebook page — we know nothing about it, or who is behind it, although we have a good idea.
In fact, while a town centre makeover can’t be neglected, we see a reservoir on the Waikanae River and an underpass to replace the Elizabeth Street level crossing as more important.
I have seen the flyer in question, and while I have a personal aversion to any activity undertaken in an anonymous manner, I have to wonder why the flyer is of more concern to Ms Lusk than the quips of her Waikanae ward Councillor that comprise most of the content of the flyer?
Michael Scott’s ill-mannered comments are in the public domain, were read in council by Mr Christopher Ruthe, and are the subject of a Code of Conduct complaint by Cr David Scott. Michael Scott was asked by several Councillors to apologise to the woman on the receiving end of his barbs but adamantly refused to do so. This is merely the latest of a long and seemingly continuing series of outrageous behavior by Michael Scott towards both ratepayers and several other Councillors.
Of over-riding concern, I suggest, should be the manner by which both Councillors and senior staff are beyond public accountability, and any efforts to make them so place one on the receiving end of KCDC’s bellicosity, while Kapiti is very poorly served by the local press in reporting what is actually going on. When people are silenced, intimidated and threatened, then one should not be surprised or feign indignation when some respond with samiszdat type actions.
