Ahh Mahara place. The council have done their “this is what the people want” bit and a little later “we cant afford it bit”. Now I see it is canvasing what improvements should be made, so clearly it is back in “this is what the people want” mode.
The council always seem to cover up the costs until after rates increases time. So are we talking 5,6 or 7% rates increase the next time round. After all the mayor who promised no more than 3.3% (I believe) is long gone.
Natasha Tod of the KCDC’s letter puts an interesting twist on Mahara Place. Surely the council should wait until it finds out how many buildings are earthquake prone before it starts spending – But will they I wonder. How much has been spent to date?
