Kim Hartmann’s own 100 day challenge last year — one panel per day.

The Tutere Gallery + Creative Space had an information presentation on this last night. It took place last year and is being repeated this year over 11 June — 18 September.

In essence:

The dream… do something creative every day for 100 days.

The challenge… motivation and discipline.  Where do you find the time?

The benefits… personal growth, artistic growth, confidence, and so much more!

They have developed a program so that participants can experience the 100 day challenge with support and three levels of connection which are grouped into tiers 1 through 3. Participants can chose tier 1, tiers 1+2 or all 3 with costs of $50, $200 and $400 respectively.

Normal ants were a problem for years when we moved to Waikanae, but a collaborative effort between people in our street to get rid of them saw them go away.

Raumati South residents are under attack from ants says Trevor Daniell, Chair of the Raumati South Resident’s Association.

“We’ve had numerous reports of major infestations of Argentine ants, one of the most invasive ants in the world. There have been reports of ants infesting houses, overtaking gardens and in one case being found in the dishwasher. They travel in columns, 4-5 ants wide, but scatter quickly when disturbed, running up arms and legs very aggressively. The only way to control this major threat to our lifestyle is to cooperate as a whole community.

“A meeting will be held 10 am, Sunday 18 March at the Memorial Hall on Tennis Court Rd in Raumati South to discuss the situation and a plan to knock back the ant problem in the area south of Menin Road, Raumati South.

“We are asking people to save small lidded containers, such as pill containers from the chemist; we will need hundreds. We are going to organise a workshop to show people how to prepare and turn the containers into ant bait stations.”

Not Waikanae, but the Paraparaumu shopping area.  Kapiti Lights is the name given to the area immediately to the southwest of the major Main Road/Kapiti Road intersection, where there has long been traffic lights…

The area has been given a bit of a makeover in the past few months including new pavers; the statement on the council website doesn’t say who is paying for it, although “with the support of Coastlands and Kāpiti Lights property owners” suggests that not all of it is being met by the council.

The council’s Reserves week began today, but instead of the Pharazyn event we chose a wander through this one located on the east side of the Main Road not far from Lindale on the west side, about 2 km north of Paraparaumu.  It contains a marvelous stand of NZ’s only native palm trees, the Nikau, and other native trees.

The paths have taken a hammering from recent downpours, so a bit of extra care is needed until they are reinstated.

The ZL2KB repeater site is located on one of the highest points at Mt Field and gives a good view of Waikanae.
