As if their nutty ideas for the Main Road weren’t enough…
“Our aim is to improve the convenience and safety for cycling and walking”. Why is there a need to do either on this street? Walking is perfectly safe, and so is cycling.
This proposal “Removes all street trees between the kerb and channel on the south side” and it has a “Relatively high cost, it requires a new 2.5 metres wide concrete path over 800 metres with over 30 new driveway crossings required.”
Groan.
They’re asking for your opinions: tell them to stop wasting money on things that are unnecessary. The council webpage with more details is here
One of the options admits it is about spending available moneys. I suspect all options come from the same starting point.
Indeed: the “significant external funding support is available” indicates that like the Main Road, the cost of this silliness may be an offer from the central government.
Decent footpaths all round the district would be a better use of ratepayers money.
