As everyone knows, in America the 4th of July is the National Day and a big event — accompanied by parties and fireworks (which in a lot of areas are not a good idea and often private fireworks are banned outright).

We noted in California and several other states the AAA was offering free tows home for anyone — an AAA member or not — for a car with a driver and a passenger who felt they were under the influence. It applied for tows up to 10 miles (16 km).

AAA is offering its Tipsy Tow service for the Fourth of July holiday so they don’t see the “red, white and blue” of police sirens pulling them over for impaired driving.

From 6 p.m. Wednesday to 6 a.m. Thursday, AAA will offer a free tow of up to 10 miles for a driver, one passenger and their vehicle, and AAA membership is not required.

It’s a great public service and one the AA in NZ could offer on equivalent days —  Christmas and New Year being the obvious ones.
