A message from the council:

The playground upgrade at Waimeha Domain [in Tutere Street opposite Long Beach, Front Room cafés] will start on Monday 17 February. We anticipate the works to take up to two weeks depending on weather, which means the new playground will be ready to use for the weekend of 29 February. We will open the playground as soon as it is complete and has been signed off as safe and ready to use. There will be signage up at the park to let people know what is happening and the expected date of completion. We will also be updating people through our usual channels.
The following equipment is remaining in addition to the new equipment:
- Maypole
- Two slides that go down the hill (we may need to refurbish the blue slide)
Above are the images of what the playground will like – as voted on by the community. Please note that all of the equipment will be located on the top plateau away from the road, but the existing slides will remain in the same place.
In order to put the new equipment in the best location, a smaller Phoenix Palm needs to be removed along with an old stump. This tree is shown in the top image circled in red. The removal of this tree will happen during the week of 10 February. This will only take one day and access to the park will still be open – just not around the immediate area of work. This will be managed in accordance with the site safety plan.
