A message received via the council:
Tamariki [children] are at the heart of everything we do and our aim is to keep providing services that work for our whānau. To help us do this, the decision has been made to potentially sell our property in Waikanae to another Community Organisation. Located on Council land the KCDC may give approval to sell the building to a Community Organisation.
Plunket has not run its services from the property in many years and it is not currently being used regularly, with only an occasional coffee group and external playgroup using the building. The property needs considerable repairs and maintenance and ongoing costs, such as rates and utilities, also contribute to this decision. The building would be sold as it is, including toys and other items that would then stay within the community.
There will be no changes to the services we offer families and whānau in the Waikanae area. Our services will continue to be run in Paraparaumu and Levin, as well as through our newly formed virtual service.
We remain fully committed to the Waikanae community and this decision will ensure that we can continue to deliver quality clinical services to all our whānau in a comfortable and safe environment.
We would love the communities’ feedback on the potential sale of the property, so please send any thoughts or questions to Plunket.Media@plunket.org.nz.
