A good representation of the KCDC wanting to seize money in Ratepayers’ pockets to pay for their vanity edifice.

This is report 8.1 on the Meeting Agenda covering pages 18-83 inclusive of several consultants reports ordered by Mr Maxwell that must have alone cost Ratepayers a considerable amount.

The essential Management recommendation to Councilors is:

81 That the Council approve to proceed with the Kāpiti Gateway project and for the project to proceed in accordance with the project plan on the basis of:

  • Option K: biosecurity, visitor/discovery centre, office, gift shop, café and bar/brasserie,
    OR
  • Option J: biosecurity, visitor/discovery centre, gift shop, café and bar/brasserie, OR
  • Option F: biosecurity, visitor/discovery centre, office, gift shop.
82 That the Council approve to provide up to 50% funding for the Kāpiti Gateway project
    ($2.23m)

To counter the considerable manipulation ordered by Mr Maxwell and his cohort to gave a favourable impression of the project, we’ve in turn given considerable coverage to why it should be scrapped or, at the least, shelved.

However, from discussions with those in the know, we are not optimistic that it will be defeated. The original vote to pursue it last May was passed 8-3; the votes against may be added to by one councilor who could switch sides, but that will be all.
