In the 1960 NZ had full employment. Watersiders and freezing workers earned big bucks. Tertiary education was virtually free. An ideal opportunity for “the oppressed” to offer opportunities to their children. So what happened?
Only the elderly recall those days. There was much less crime and far more freedom. I could walk down Willis Street with my rifle over my shoulder and it would not attract a second glance from anybody. Now I would be shot by the police before walking 50 metres. The only disadvantages then were half baked drinking hours and not much in the shops bar essentials. But a leg of lamb cost 10 shillings and sixpence, a little over a dollar in today’s money. One could knock on the Prime Minister’s door and he would open it himself in his shirt sleeves. There was no PC crap in the universities, no climate change bullshit, far fewer lecturers who just stuck to the basics. Now there is a geography department with ten times the staff and mostly teaching rubbish like feminist geography! There will be feminist maths and physics next.
