Upper Hutt mayor Wayne Guppy is standing by a decision not to use vaccine passes to access his council’s facilities.
The “bottom line” was the government-issued guidelines delegated the decision to councils, he said.
“We have been living in fear for almost two years and the guidance was about starting to normalise life. We are making sure the public facilities we have are open to every one and people are not being excluded.”
The decision not to use passes was made by the chief executive and could be reviewed at a council meeting later this month, Guppy said.

Good for you. It is about time someone stood up to this terrifyingly authoritarian government which imagines itself to be always right and refuses to countenance any debate.
Porirua is going with everything that is put out by our group of you know what from Wellington. Also see on the news that no more cars on the beach at Titahi Bay. We have had this open since adam was a baby.. You know what I mean.
Tired of all these restrictions from Govt and our Council. I do hope though more Councils will stand up to this dictatorship
