Because the Russian military have been using it as a symbol for their action in Ukraine. It’s not clear why as it doesn’t appear in the Russian Cyrillic alphabet (it doesn’t appear in the Ukrainian alphabet either).

Why only “Z”? The Russians and DPR forces have been using the letters A O S V X and Z. They claim they have meanings such as victory in battle etc. But some of these letters are not even in the russian alphabet. The only sense I can make of it is.
“AZOV X” An end to the national socialits ukrainian battalion that has members clearly displaying swastikas, wolf rune symbols and the black sun. All favourites of the WWII era German National Socialist Party, otherwise called Nazi party as a slur.
