For our next event in our Readers and Writers Programme we are delighted to welcome Linda Burgess.
Linda has published three novels, a collection of short stories, two memoirs and two books on historic buildings. Her latest book is Someone’s Wife, a collection of personal essays. She adapted it for and read it on National Radio. She is a regular tv commentator on Afternoons with Jesse Mulligan on Radio NZ, and writes a monthly essay for The Spinoff. She is a regular book reviewer for both Newsroom and The Spinoff, and also Landfall. She has been runner-up in both the Sunday Star Times and Katherine Mansfield Short Story competitions and last year was a finalist in the Voyager Media Awards, First Person Narrative.
A reviewer in Landfall described Linda’s memoir, Someone’s Wife, as ‘hilarious and devastating … perhaps Burgess is our Joan Didion, albeit less aloof, more gregarious and with better jokes’.
