These two pics taken at the base of the dunes looking north and south show how loose sand was redistributed over the beach by waves driven up the beach during the storm two weeks ago. This is the type of rising sea that is a legitimate cause for concern — alleged rising sea level from melting ice caps is nonsense.

In Waikanae this is the extent of the problem, and it has happened before, the previous occasion was in 2016. In due course the westerly winds blew the sand on the beach back to where it had been, and that will happen again. But the key thing is that the bulk of the sand dunes stood up to the waves.
