This time it will only be for the Kapiti Mayor, plus Districtwide Councilors (3) — and for Waikanae people, the Ward councilors (2) plus the Community Board (4).
Because the District Health Boards have been abolished, there is no vote involved for that this time.
As before, the STV voting system is used which involves listing candidates in order of preference, but it’s unnecessary to list all the candidates in order of preference, just the ones you want is enough — 1,2,3 — and makes it a lot easier.

We have STV for the first time this time. It took YEARS of campaigning to get the change. In the last 2 elections the former Nazional lackey, John Carter, got elected mayor with about 30% and 2 councillors got elected with around 10% each. RIDICULOUS. Carter is “quitting while he is ahead” by not standing this time because he KNOWS he would never get re elected under STV. Could be quite interesting this time, we have a slate of “Freedom Fighter” type candidates this time who are, of course, being subjected to anti vaxxer, conspiracy theorist hit pieces by “The Stuffers,” and it seems to be having the opposite effect of what The Stuffers want, just the pathetic doco Backfire and Futile
