Te Aputa Ki Wairau Parata was born on 17 July 1908, in Horowhenua. Her father, Tohuroa Hira Parata, and her mother, Te Oiroa Tuhokairangi, were both 29. She married Patea Hairuha Kauri. She died in 1985, at the age of 77, and was buried in Ruakohatu Urupa, Waikanae. Her son was Mita Anaru Tuhoa Kairangi Kauri and her daughter was Wai Cooke.
