Note: we had misgivings about posting this as we don’t want to be viewed as part of the current Chinese phobia which has echoes of the ‘Yellow Peril’ phobia that was prevalent in NZ in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The Chinese want to do business — the issue is what and how much foreign ownership and control in NZ is good, and what is bad? Buying up arable land to plant pine trees for the crazy Carbon Credits scheme is definitely in the latter category. —Eds
