Wi Parata is an important figure in the history of Waikanae and this house would certainly have historic status today — if it still existed. He died in 1906 at the age of approximately 70 after falling from a horse, and according to this article in the Kapiti News from 2016, “this house was demolished to make way for the Waikanae Hotel bottle store and car park.” Most unfortunate. The article doesn’t give a date.
