Wi Parata is an important figure in the history of Waikanae and this house would certainly have historic status today — if it still existed. He died in 1906 at the age of approximately 70 after falling from a horse, and according to this article in the Kapiti News from 2016, “this house was demolished to make way for the Waikanae Hotel bottle store and car park.” Most unfortunate.
