“These products have a very narrow margin of safety: it takes only a small amount to cause severe toxicosis in dogs and cats. For example, ~0.5 tbsp of a pelleted 0.075% cholecalciferol product causes hypercalcemia in a 20-lb (9.1-kg) dog. Therefore, ~1.5 tbsp would cause hypercalcemia in a 65-lb (Labrador-size) dog.”

Low-dose cholecalciferol bait for possum and rodent control
“It is a horrid slow death… but probably preferable to 1080.
“Don’t let dogs anywhere near it!”
This is the reason after 60+ years of dog ownership that I am now dog-less and wont be replacing them anymore as NZ is far to dangerous and toxic to safely take them most places .
You also miss the risk to children :
For example, ~0.5 tbsp of a pelleted 0.075% cholecalciferol product causes hypercalcemia in a 20-lb (9.1-kg) dog. Therefore, ~1.5 tbsp would cause hypercalcemia in a ” 29.5 kg child ”
Feeling like its time to bail out of NZ ( poisoned nation ) to seek a safer country !
DoC are addicted to using poisons, some small amounts must have got into their brains that’s assuming they have got any.
