This was a Railways publicity photo of the then new Ew class electric locomotives introduced in 1952 and used in the Wellington region to Paekakariki, Upper Hutt and Johnsonville. They were all withdrawn by the end of 1983. The goods wagons look like ones that were used for livestock.

The location will be familiar to most: on the Centennial Highway about the boundary between Kapiti and Porirua City in Pukerua Bay.
