The COVID-19 Royal Commission has the legal power to summon witnesses under oath. It’s time they used it. These 12 individuals were among the most influential voices during New Zealand’s pandemic response. They shaped public opinion, advised government policy, fronted daily briefings and silenced dissent. They told us to “trust the science” and punished those who didn’t.

They Should Face Accountability!  And not behind closed doors.

Not hidden behind press releases. But in full view of the New Zealand public. We’re calling on the Royal Commission to summon these people as witnesses, under oath.

No rehearsed statements. No private meetings. Real questions. Real answers. Public accountability.

Will the Inquiry deliver justice? We’re not holding our breath!

But… Forcing those who were in charge to front up, take the tough questions, and face public scrutiny (and then watching the backlash if the process falls short) achieves three important things:

  • It turns the whole exercise into a public lesson on the truth behind Covid-era decisions and the fallout we’re still dealing with.
  • It shrinks the number of Kiwis who blindly trust “the system,” making it harder for the same mistakes to be repeated.
  • It turns up the volume on calls for real accountability – and when enough people demand consequences, they happen.

That’s why this week’s petition push matters. The more signatures, the more pressure. The more pressure, the harder it is for the Commission to ignore us. Public opinion is already shifting. 

The Curia poll shows 2 in 3 Kiwis now want these figures questioned under oath. Let’s make sure the Royal Commission hears that loud and clear. Let’s make sure the truth sees daylight.
