Herr Merz realizes that the EU is in danger of collapse. One little problem for Herr Merz is that alternatives to Russia will cost a lot more as manufacturers in his Reich have found out. The Indians are probably too polite to tell Merz he’s full of shit.

AHMEDABAD (ANP/RTR/DPA) – Germany wants to strengthen security cooperation with India. This should help the Asian power become less dependent on Russia, said German Chancellor Friedrich Merz during his first visit to India since taking office.

Merz is visiting the country with a large trade delegation. It is considered remarkable that he is visiting India on behalf of China, a major sales market, and G7 partner Japan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi received the German Chancellor in his home region.

India has close ties with Russia, from which it purchases military equipment and large quantities of oil. Germany and India have now agreed to expand their defense cooperation and signed a memorandum of understanding to this effect.

Merz also advocated for concluding negotiations on a free trade agreement between India and the EU. He warned that the world is facing a “resurgence of protectionism,” which, he said, is detrimental to both Germany and India.
