Unlike Park Avenue there is a need for this on the semi rural road and it was being dicussed by the Waikanae Community Board in 2020.

Work to widen key sections of Peka Peka Road will begin next week and is expected to be completed by early April. As part of the Kāpiti Coast Cycle Route, these improvements will increase road width at two corners with low visibility, reducing conflict between vehicles and cyclists by providing more space.
