Residents of the Lithuanian capital Vilnius were briefly urged to take shelter on Wednesday due to a drone alert. The Lithuanian President and Prime Minister, among others, heeded the call after the air raid siren also sounded in parliament, state media report. The airport near the city also closed for a short time.
Images from Lietuvos Rytas show people gathering in a parking garage. The warning has since been withdrawn. According to the country’s Minister of Defense, the unmanned aircraft from Ukraine was flying towards Lentvaris, a suburb southwest of Vilnius. The drone is now reportedly flying in the opposite direction and being pursued by NATO fighter jets. Just last Tuesday, a Ukrainian drone was shot down in Estonian airspace. Ukraine later apologized for the incident, calling it deliberate sabotage by Russia.
It looks like Lithuania as well as Estonia have finally heeded the warning about what will happen to them if they don’t stop Ukrainian/Nato drones flying over their territory into Russia. Latvia hasn’t, so below is a walking tour of the capital, Riga to show what it looks like presently before they get retaliation.
