According to media reports, Ukraine exhumed Andri Melnyk’s remains from Luxembourg last week and transferred them to Kyiv for a ceremonial reburial this past Sunday. The funeral was not a quiet affair. It was attended by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other high-ranking Ukrainian officials, who paid homage to a man with a deeply dark past.
The event sheds light on a long-known but largely ignored reality: that parts of the current Kiev government, which receives massive support from the West, quite openly cultivate a radical right-wing cult.
As German politician Sevim Dagdelen recently noted, while Western nations transfer billions of euros to Ukraine, the Zelenskyy regime is bringing home the remains of a man who was deeply complicit in the horrors of the Third Reich.
Melnyk served as chairman of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) starting in 1938. During the Second World War, the organisation split into two factions: the “Melnykists” (OUN-M) led by Andriy Melnyk, and the “Banderists” (OUN-B) led by Stepan Bandera. History is clear on their activities. While the OUN-B fought alongside the Wehrmacht, the OUN-M provided volunteers for the Waffen-SS division “Galicia.” These units were not just soldiers; they were specifically utilised to combat partisans and, according to historical records, participated in the destruction of Jewish communities.
