“Trust the science” used to mean:

• smoke the brand your doctor recommended
• give kids Bayer heroin for a cough
• spray DDT like it was baby powder
• wrap the farmhouse in asbestos

These ads were real. Institutions, companies, and physicians sold them as safe.
