This is a still from a 1973 English TV show (AI enhanced) with an attendant for pumps which advertise a price of 37 p for an imperial gallon (4.55 litres) or 8 p (about 16 cents NZ) per litre. In NZ it was a lot less than that — only about 10c a litre.
Of course, those figures have to be adusted for inflation — 82 p and $NZ 1.65 respectively in present day terms.
In those days we filled up by the dollar amount, e.g. $5 a fill or similar. Nowadays, it would cost $5 to get from the underground tank into your car’s petrol tank!
