Those who live in towns and/or streets with Maori names are used to people misspelling them – a couple of weeks ago we had “Avanti” for “Awanui” – but here’s one body that should know better – the Kapiti Coast District Council!

There is a Waikane – but it is in Hawaii: part of Polynesia, but a long way from Waikanae.
