We’ve mentioned that this is a track for the very fit; and there was a fatality on Anzac Day last Monday when a 63-year-old man collapsed upon reaching the top of the climb. Story

In 2007 we climbed the Tatra mountains on the Poland/Slovakia border (photo above looking at the border crest), and we actually found that easier than the Pukerua Bay section of the Te Araroa track.

To reiterate: the Pukerua Bay track is not for the unfit, or those who suffer from vertigo!
