The council says:

“This intersection is a busy connection point for this part of Waikanae Beach, for both traffic and pedestrians – particularly during peak traffic times. It’s also a busy spot during weekends and holidays, with the many holiday home visitors we get coming to our District. Over the next two months we’ll be carrying out some upgrades to make the intersection safer for pedestrians, including:

  • installing crossing points (pedestrian refuges) on each street;
  • renewing the footpaths, including better connections on the corners of Waimea Road;
  • realigning the kerb on the corners of Waimea Road;
  • improved road markings.

“We’ll have an infographic available shortly.”
