We mentioned this story last July — yesterday after all attempts by the protest group to save them failed, down came the trees amid considerable anguish from the protestors.

Your editors fully sympathize with the protestors, and if we lived in Auckland would have joined them. It’s extremely distressing to see elegant, spirit-rejuvenating trees deliberately destroyed simply from desire for property development profits.
