What is certain is that most inhabitants of Crimea wanted Russia to take them over in 2014 because they’d had enough of Ukrainian rule. Despite its abundant natural resources, Ukraine is the poorest country in Europe with a GDP per capita less than half that of Russia, a consequence of the prevailing fraud and corruption.
