Although only 14 km north of Waikanae, Otaki is culturally rather different with a high Maori population.

The Maoriland Film Festival is an annual event and has films with an indigenous focus from both NZ and other countries. This year’s program with details of the films is here.

There is also a 10 minute spot (at the 9 minute mark) on the TV One Marae program broadcast today which is available on the TVNZ+ a.k.a. TVNZ On Demand website.

For Waikanae people there is a free bus from Waikanae Station to the Civic Theatre in Otaki, the venue. For people south of Waikanae your ticket gives you a free ride on the train to Waikanae also to connect with the bus.
