The three are Waikanae (4 vacancies, but just 3 candidates), Raumati (ditto) and Paekakariki (4 vacancies, one candidate).

It seems to vindicate Geoffrey’s statement to the Representation Review last year — the Community Boards should be retained but only if they are given more powers. Who wants to spent several hours a week trying to advocate for the local area when you get ignored by staff and treated like an elected member second class by certain councilors (none of whom should have voting rights)?

If the council had agreed for the boards to be given decision making powers, it would be sure to have excited more people.
