Update: the date has been changed to Friday, 28 October
Dyslexia probably affects up to 500,000 New Zealanders.

The presentation of a petition calling on Government to establish a government inquiry into dyslexia in New Zealand is an important event for 2022
This article is to encourage as many people as possible to be present for the acceptance of the petition. All are very welcome and it would be great if you could all share this article with your own networks.
The timing is: Friday, 28 October 2022, 1.00 pm on the Steps of Parliament
The date is in the school holidays and is the Wednesday of International Dyslexia Awareness Week.
The theme for this year’s celebration is “Go red for Dyslexia”, and is a response to the fact that many people were traumatized by having their school work marked with multiple red pen markings for all their spelling errors.
We have a sponsor for the event: New World supermarket has donated 100 bright red shopping bags that we hope people will hold up for some photos for the media.
I have secured a slot on the TV one Breakfast program – early this Wednesday morning (of the event.)
Schedule on Wednesday
I am hoping that people will gather outside the Old Bailey hotel in lower Lambton Quay at 12.30 pm, and then march down to Parliament.
I chose the Old Bailey because it is almost opposite the TVNZ Wellington studios and that might foster more media coverage.
I will distribute the colourful shopping bags at that stage. The petition signatures will be in a red file box.
If all goes well there may be a bit of attention grabbing at that stage. I have prepared a ‘Sope Bocks’ (Soap Box).
I am preparing some placards to draw the attention of the public to the cause.
If anybody else wants to prepare placards – that would be great. The more the merrier.
It is most likely that my family members and I will be travelling into Wellington by train and we will most likely catch the 11:00 am train from Waikanae (11:06 from Paraparaumu.) If anybody would like to join us on the train, that would be great. In order that I might get some idea of numbers, please e-mail me to let me know that you are planning to join the procession. email@example.com
Come and be a part of history!
