At this point nearly 35,000 have signed it in less than two days, which must make it one of the fastest responses ever in NZ — a great example of the whole Kapiti community rallying around a treasured part of it.

Last evening Geoffrey and I went to a function by Forsyth Barr in Te Raukura in Raumati — the caterer was PartyPerfect, owned by the family. We spoke to one of the servers and learned that apart from the family, several other employee jobs are at risk. A lot of hard work has been put into both the restaurant and the catering business, all to be put at risk by brainless officialdom in the Immigration Department.

Messages of support for them need to go to the Minister of Immigration, Michael Wood and the Opposition spokesperson on Immigration, Erica Stansford.
