The Labour Government continues to spend critical health resources on backroom consultants rather than frontline services, National’s Health spokesperson Dr Shane Reti says. “Health Minister Dr Ayesha Verrall revealed that Health NZ hired 343 ‘new’ consultants in the first six months of its operation, with 26 of them being public relations consultants.
“This Labour Government is clearly out of ideas and spraying money on consultants to push their ideological health restructure – all while delivering some of the worst health metrics and making access to health even harder for sick and injured New Zealanders.
“When pushed on the total costs of consultants for Health NZ, the Minister claimed she did not know. The figure is likely sitting in the Minister’s ‘hide the bad news’ drawer, along with the emergency department wait time figures that she still refuses to release.
“Dissatisfied with the Minister’s response on total cost on consultants, I looked at the other two health systems: the Ministry of Health and the Māori Health Authority.
“In the first six months since Health NZ was established, the Ministry of Health reported it spent $21 million on consultants, while the Māori Health Authority spent $8 million – however it is yet to be seen how this expenditure has helped improve any Māori health outcomes.
“This Government is putting money towards spin doctors instead of real doctors, while health continues to deteriorate across the country – wait times for emergency departments, first specialist appointments and surgery are all at record highs, yet Labour continues to spend millions with no improvements.
“A National Government will stop the waste and instead build the health workforce. National will set targets and will hold itself accountable for achieving them.”
Shame Reti has been fully on board with the genocide jab (also known as the covid vaccine). Therefore I treat anything he says with the contempt it deserves.
Doesn’t that apply to every member of the current parliament? I no longer trust any institution, thanks to Ardern, but the reality is that you have to go with the people that you consider most trustworthy right now, in the absence of any other short term alternative. The cesspit our country has turned into is heartbreaking.
This regime’s bribed MSM has done a pretty good job of brainwashing the population on that substance. The big problem is that much of the propaganda originated from the MoH and Fauci devotees like Bloomfield (a.k.a. Doomfield). If National/ACT had been in power they would have relied on that pair also. They may not have ordered the MoH to indulge in cover-ups and obfuscation though, like this government did.
Just another corrupt government institution with it’s hand out to waste tax payer money. Do you actually believe they would spend it wisely and where needed if they were given what they wanted?
When I see this government wasting Millions and billions of dollars rather than fixing the health system I get pretty angry with them

Try registering as a new patient in any general practice in New Zealand right now. Very difficult. Doctors totally overworked and simply cannot cope, let alone offering the service most would like to. The cost of a GP visit is a genuine worry these days for many, hence the emergency depts in hospitals become the default. We have totally lost the plot over the last few years. It can’t be deliberate, can it?
Someone decided it was a great idea to fire and force doctors, nurses and specialists out of the medical profession because they exercised their god given human right to freedom of medical choice.
Then there are all the nurses that had work visas expiring during the ‘extra insane period’ and were refused the right to renew their work visas.
But there are still some highly trained doctors and nurses here in NZ. Sadly their qualifications are not recognised by the Ninistry of Helf, they work in bars, warehouses and super markets instead, saving up the tens of thousands of dollars required to get their qualifications recognised. Some won’t even bother and will spend that money on over priced housing instead.
Sad thing is those that made the above decisions will never need to see a brain surgeon.
