The evidence response comes as attempts are made to make the British countryside more inclusive, including by adding signs pointing to Mecca on hiking trails.
The British countryside has been declared “racist and colonial”. It’s too full of fresh air, greenery and — shockingly — white people enjoying nature. The Wildlife & Countryside Link (a conglomerate of nature enthusiasts including heavy hitters like WWF and RSPCA) submitted an “evidence response” to MPs, diagnosing the great outdoors with a severe case of “white British cultural values.”
The diagnosis? British green spaces need a diversity makeover! Suggestions included a ‘rights-based approach’ to accessing green spaces and adding signs pointing to Mecca in the Peak District (complete with bespoke outdoor prayer mats) — because nothing says ‘inclusive hiking’ like navigating by religious landmarks. With these groundbreaking measures, the British countryside can finally shed its colonial past and embrace a future where everyone can enjoy a bit of birdwatching without the pesky interference of historical context or practicality.
They might have a job getting the cows to wear hijabs, and goats might run away and hide when they see Muslims coming through. —Eds
Mind boggling insanity! Can a non muslim demand equal “rights” in muslim countries, especially those invaded and changed by islamists in history?
“white British cultural values.” They have to destroy everything that makes people happy.
There’s a lot that’s good about the English countryside: aside from the fact of it being so beautiful and accessible, country pubs see the gentry hanging out with farm labourers. Hiking groups tend to be a good mix of people, socially but they probably wouldn’t mind a few Pakistanis.
“bespoke outdoor prayer mats have been developed and signs installed on the trail”, seemingly as a result of activism from a group called Muslim Hikers. They live in the UK, and they don’t know which direction Mecca is in? I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a street sign pointing to Mecca in a Muslim country.
Aggressive activists are encouraged to make the world a worse place. I’m reminded of the aftermath of the Christchurch shooting. NZ Muslim leaders were invited to comment, and they were all full of praise for NZ. So we didn’t hear any more from them – instead the go-to group for Muslim opinion became some ghastly whinging women’s group.
I suggest that if they want prayer mats on the hiking trail, they take them with them. And if they don’t know where Mecca is, take a compass with them. The countryside in England does not need, nor want, signs all over the place; that is the beauty of the countryside, no flipping signs spoiling the view.
